While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written human history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of Prophets David and Solomon , peace be upon them, and Solomon's son).

After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus, peace be upon him, started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

No matter what the Zionists and their supporters do, they cannot change the will of God, Who promised the Holy Land to Abraham and his descendants, basically the Palestinian Muslims and Christians.

No matter how much persecution and aggression the Zionists and their supporters inflict upon the Palestinian people, they will never be able to force them out of the Holy Land, which Allah, praise to Him, promised for them, and kept His promise ever since.

This is a necessary brief background to understand the US-Backed Zionist Israeli continuous wars against the Arab nation generally, and the Palestinian people in particular, which included the wars of 1948, 1956, 1967, 1978, 1982, the brutal crushing of the two Uprisings (1987-1993 and 2000-2004), 2009, 2012, 2014, 2021, and the current genocidal war on Gaza (Since October 7, 2023), which has culminated a blockade of Gaza since 2007. In addition, the Israeli occupation and apartheid regime launched so many covert operations, raids, and air strikes on many Arab states since 1948.

The following news stories are just examples, not a systematic record, of the Israeli occupation government abuse, mistreatment, and violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

Israel drone strike kills senior Islamic Group official in Lebanon

Tuesday 22-April-2025

BEIRUT, (PIC)

The Islamic Group (Al-Jama’ah Al-Islamiya) in Lebanon has confirmed the martyrdom of one of its prominent academic figures, Dr. Husain 'Izzat 'Atwa, in a an Israeli drone strike, in the area of Mount Lebanon.

'Atwa, a university professor, was en route from his home in the town of Baourta to his workplace in Beirut when his car was struck by a missile from an Israeli drone on Tuesday morning.

In its statement, the Islamic Group condemned the attack, holding the “Zionist enemy” fully responsible.

“How much longer will this rogue Zionist entity persist in undermining the security of Lebanon and its citizens?” its statement read.

The Lebanese civil defense also confirmed the incident in a separate statement, reporting the martyrdom of a civilian as a result of an Israeli drone strike on Baourta Road near the coastal town of Damour.

This was not the first time 'Atwa had been targeted. In January 2024, he narrowly survived an Israeli assassination attempt on the road to Kawkaba in southern Lebanon.

The latest strike is part of an escalating Israeli campaign of targeted killings against resistance leaders across Lebanon. Just two days earlier, an Israeli drone targeted a civilian vehicle near Kawthriyat Al-Siyad town in southern Lebanon, resulting in the martyrdom of one and injuries to two others.

Al-Diqran: One million children’s lives are threatened by the spread of malnutrition in Gaza

Tuesday 22-April-2025

GAZA, (PIC)

The spokesman for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Dair El-Bala'h in the central Gaza Strip, Khaeeil Al-Diqran, said that the lives of about one million children in Gaza are threatened by the spread of malnutrition diseases, noting that pregnant women are giving birth to incomplete fetuses as a result of acute shortage of food and medical care.

Al-Diqran warned of an imminent disaster threatening 600,000 children, if Israel continues to prevent the entry of polio vaccines, warning that the spread of the disease may reach neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr. Muneer Al-Bursh, confirmed in press statements on Monday morning that Israel is deliberately targeting the tents of the displaced and killing children, saying that “the percentage of burns is higher than we can imagine due to the use of deadly weapons.” He added that “many children have died of malnutrition,” amid “suspicious international silence” on the part of human rights and humanitarian organizations.

Dr. Fadi Al-Madhoun, medical director of MSF/Doctors Without Borders in Gaza, said the health system in the Strip has “collapsed,” elaborating that about 50,000 sick and wounded people need urgent surgeries in light of the lack of medical supplies, and that “thousands of children are suffering from malnutrition.”

UNICEF expressed its deep concern about the collapse of the health system in the Strip, and confirmed in a post on X, last Saturday, that Gaza hospitals that treat children and newborns “lack sufficient medical equipment and work in extremely difficult conditions.”

The survival of Gaza’s children depends on the immediate re-imposition of a ceasefire and unhindered access to humanitarian aid, UNICEF added.

The Israeli ban on vaccines threatens 602,000 Palestinian children in Gaza with permanent paralysis and disabilities: Medical sources

GAZA, April 22, 2025 (WAFA) –

Medical sources in the Gaza Strip stated that 602,000 children are at risk of permanent paralysis and chronic disabilities unless the occupation forces deliver polio vaccines, which have been suspended for 40 days.

The same sources explained that preventing the delivery of vaccines is hindering efforts to implement the fourth phase of strengthening polio prevention.

They noted that Gaza's children are threatened by serious and unprecedented health complications due to the lack of adequate nutrition and drinking water.

Gaza Strip is witnessing worst humanitarian situation since the beginning of the the Israeli aggression, OCHA reports

RAMALLAH, April 22, 2025 (WAFA) –

Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said on Tuesday that the Gaza Strip is experiencing the "worst humanitarian situation" since the beginning of the war due to Israel's blocking of humanitarian aid.

This came in response to a question about Israel's blocking of humanitarian aid for more than 50 days, during a press conference at the UN Office in Geneva.

Laerke noted that humanitarian aid has not reached Gaza for 50 days, and that commercial goods have not reached Gaza for even longer.

He added: "In Gaza, you can see a clear trend towards a complete catastrophe. Right now, the humanitarian situation in Gaza is probably the worst since the beginning of the war."

Al-Bursh: Israel deliberately targets children and women through direct strikes and starvation

Tuesday 22-April-2025

GAZA, (PIC)

Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, stated that the Israeli occupation is deliberately killing children and women by directly targeting displacement tents. He noted that the number of child martyrs has reached 17,954, and 12,365 women have been killed.

In media statements on Tuesday, Al-Bursh said that since the beginning of this year, more than 52 children have died from malnutrition and 17 others from severe cold.

He added that 22,000 patients are in urgent need of treatment abroad, including 13,000 who require immediate travel. Meanwhile, at least 60,000 children are suffering from malnutrition across the Gaza Strip.

Al-Bursh also reported that the occupation has killed over 1,400 healthcare workers and detained around 360 others, including Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya. Twenty hospitals have been rendered completely out of service, and only 18 are partially operational.

He criticized what he described as the “suspicious international silence” from international organizations in the face of these crimes.

In the same context, Dr. Fadi Al-Madhoun, Medical Director of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) in Gaza, stated that the healthcare system in Gaza is near total collapse due to the blockade. He explained that 50,000 patients and wounded individuals are in urgent need of surgeries, and thousands of children are suffering from malnutrition due to the severe shortage of food supplies.

On Tuesday evening, four Palestinian civilians were killed and another injured in an Israeli drone strike that targeted a group of civilians east of Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza.

According to local sources, an Israeli drone launched at least one missile toward a group of civilians in the town of Bani Suhaila, east of Khan Yunis.

Medical sources confirmed that four martyrs and one critically injured person were transferred to Nasser Medical Complex and the European Hospital following the strike.

The Israeli assault on Gaza continues for the 36th consecutive day, with ongoing massacres targeting civilians and displaced families, as well as systematic destruction of life-saving infrastructure.

Since the resumption of the genocidal war on 18 March 2025, the death toll has risen to 1,890 martyrs and 4,950 wounded. This brings the total number of Palestinians killed since 7 October 2023 to 51,266, with 116,991 injured, many suffering severe or critical wounds.

Four Palestinian citizens killed in Israeli shelling of Shuja'iyya, east of Gaza City

GAZA, April 22, 2025 (WAFA) –

Four Palestinian citizens were killed and others were injured Tuesday afternoon in Israeli shelling of Shuja'iyya, east of Gaza City, and north of the Nuseirat refugee camp, central Gaza Strip.

WAFA correspondents reported, citing medical sources, three civilians, including two girls, were killed and others were injured when Israeli fighter jets bombed a gathering of citizens north of Nuseirat.

The same sources added that one martyr was killed in Israeli shelling of a house in Wadi al-Aris in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood, while a citizen was seriously injured following renewed artillery shelling of the al-Zeitoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City.

Israeli fighter jets also launched an airstrike on the al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City.

Four civilians killed in Israeli airstrike on southern Gaza Strip

GAZA, April 22, 2025 (WAFA) –

An Israeli airstrike Tuesday evening targeted Bani Suheila town, east of Khan Younes in the southern Gaza Strip, killing four civilians, according to WAFA correspondent.

He said that an Israeli combat drone conducted a strike targeting a group of people in the town, claiming the lives of four.

Israel unilaterally ended the Gaza ceasefire agreement and resumed its aggression on the Strip on Tuesday, March 18, carrying out a wave of bloody airstrikes across the Strip and killing hundreds of Palestinians, including over 100 children.

The death toll reached 1,890 with 4,950 others wounded, according to medical sources. Emergency teams are attempting to recover victims still trapped beneath the rubble.

Medical sources added that within the last 24 hours, the bodies of 26 slain Palestinians and 60 casualties were admitted into hospitals across the Strip.

The aggression was resumed amidst concerns over the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Strip given the ongoing siege and ban on the entry of medical and humanitarian aid.

Israel has waged a military onslaught on the Strip since October 2023, killing 51,266 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 116,991 others.

Moreover, at least 10,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.

The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.

Dozens of casualties in Israeli attacks on Gaza

Tuesday 22-April-2025

GAZA, (PIC)

The Israeli occupation army continued last night and on Tuesday to carry out deadly attacks on different areas of the Gaza Strip, killing and injuring dozens of civilians.

According to local media sources, Israeli forces also continued today to detonate more homes and displace families in the Gaza Strip, further exacerbating the dire humanitarian suffering of the population.

According to the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reporters in Gaza, Israeli attacks have continued across the Gaza Strip, including an Israeli strike that killed three civilians in Beer Al-Naja area, west of Jabalya refugee camp in northern Gaza.

An Israeli attack on a house in central Khan Younus, south of Gaza, claimed the lives of nine civilians and injured several others, including children and women.

Several casualties were also reported, including five martyrs, following an airstrike on a house belonging to the family of Bakr in the west of Gaza City.

The Israeli army also launched attacks on other areas of the Gaza Strip last night and today, killing and wounding more civilians, including children and women.

Israeli army bombs bulldozers, heavy vehicles across Gaza

Tuesday 22-April-2025

GAZA, (PIC)

The Israeli occupation forces carried out at dawn Tuesday systematic strikes on bulldozers, tanker trucks and heavy-duty vehicles in different areas of the Gaza Strip.

A reporter for the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) said that Israeli warplanes carried out strikes on many bulldozers and heavy-duty vehicles belonging to local municipal authorities and private companies in Gaza and destroyed them.

Most of those bulldozers and vehicles had been utilized in rescue operations and debris clearance efforts across Gaza.

According to the Jabalya municipality, Israeli warplanes bombed and destroyed nine Egyptian bulldozers, one local bulldozer, two water and fuel tanker trucks, two sewage vehicles, and one garbage collection tractor.

Other local sources reported that airstrikes also targeted and destroyed several bulldozers in Gaza City and another one in Khan Younus.

The sources have accused the Israeli occupation of seeking to destroy all means of rescue and survival in Gaza as part of its genocidal war on the population.

IOFs raid homes, kidnap several Palestinians in the West Bank

Tuesday 22-April-2025

WEST BANK, (PIC)

The Israeli occupation forces (IOFs) kidnapped several Palestinian citizens during raids in the West Bank last night and on Tuesday morning.

According to local sources, the IOFs raided multiple homes in the eastern neighborhood of Jineen City and kidnaped one young man.

The IOFs also broke into and ransacked homes in Jaba' town, south of Jineen, and kidnapped at least seven citizens.

In Nablus, the IOFs kidnapped a young man from the Doctors neighborhood in the city to pressure his brother to turn himself in.

Israeli occupation forces also stormed Osareen village in the southeast of Nablus and ransacked homes, with no reported kidnappings.

In Toubas, a large number of IOF vehicles and bulldozers stormed Tayaseer village, where Israeli occupation soldiers reportedly blocked its streets and embarked on raiding several homes and stealing money and gold jewelry belonging to local residents.

The Israeli occupation soldiers reportedly stormed the school of 'Aqaba village near Tayaseer and removed the Palestinian flag from the building.

In Toulkarm, the IOFs kidnapped a young man from his home in the Dthinnaba suburb of the city — where a military operation has been ongoing for about three months.

In Ramallah, the Israeli occupation forces raided homes in different towns and villages. No kidnappings have been reported.

In Al-Khaleel (Hebron), at least six citizens were taken prisoners during an IOFs raid on Dair Samit town.

The IOFs also kidnapped four citizens from Al-Khaleel (Hebron) City.

Israeli occupation forces kidnap two Palestinians from West Bank

Al-Khaleel (Hebron), April 22, 2025 (WAFA) –

Israeli occupation forces Tuesday evening kidnapped two Palestinians from the Hebron and Nablus governorates in the occupied West Bank, according to security sources.

They said that the Israeli occupation forces rounded up a Palestinian from a store in Al-Khaleel (Hebron) City.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation soldiers manning the Dair Sharaf checkpoint stopped and detained a young man several hours after kidnapping his brother from the Rafidia area as a means to coerce the former into turning himself in.

Earlier today, the occupation forces rounded up 25 Palestinians in multiple raids across the West Bank, as confirmed by local sources.

They said that the Israeli occupation forces ransacked several houses and rounded up six Palestinians from the Jaba‘ town, south of Jenin City, which has been the target of Israeli military aggression for 92 consecutive days.

They showed up at a house in the eastern neighborhood of the city of Jenin, muscled inside, and detained a young man.

In Al-Khaleel (Hebron) governorate, Israeli soldiers detained six Palestinians, including two brothers, from the Dair Samit town, west of Al-Khaleel (Hebron).

The soldiers forcibly entered several houses in the southern area of the city of Al-Khaleel (Hebron) and kidnapped four others.

The gun-toting soldiers rounded up five others: two brothers from the Yatta town and three from the Bait Ummar town, northwest of Al-Khaleel (Hebron).

In the Toulkarm governorate, the sources confirmed a similar raid in the Dthinnaba neighborhood, where the soldiers forcibly entered many houses, turned them topsy-turvy, and detained three Palestinians.

The heavily armed soldiers rearrested a former prisoner after breaking into his house in the vicinity of the Toulkarm refugee camp.

The occupation forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost daily across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids are conducted without the need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses, in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law, army commanders have full executive, legislative, and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.

According to the latest figures from Al-Dhameer, the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, there are currently 9,900 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centers, including 400 child prisoners, 27 female prisoners, and five members of the Palestinian Legislative Council.

This number includes approximately 3,498 Palestinians placed under “administrative detention”, which allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.

The mass arrest of Palestinians is nothing new. According to a 2017 report by Al-Dhameer, over the past 50 years, more than 800,000 Palestinians have been imprisoned or detained by Israel; this figure is now believed to be closer to 1 million. This means that about 40% of Palestinian men and boys living under military occupation have been deprived of their freedom. Almost every Palestinian family has suffered the imprisonment of a loved one.

Israeli forces order more families to leave their houses in Tulkarm refugee camp

TULKARM, April 22, 2025 (WAFA) –

Israeli occupation forces Tuesday ordered more families to leave their houses in the Tulkarm refugee camp as the Israeli military aggression on Tulkarm City and the refugee camp continued for the 86th consecutive day, according to WAFA correspondent.

She said that the occupation forces were deployed on a large scale in the various neighborhoods of the city, including in the vicinity of al-Miga Circle and the vegetable market, where the soldiers stopped civilian passers-by, inspected their ID cards, fired barrages of concussion grenades in an act of terrorism, and detained a youth.

In the eastern neighborhood of the city, the soldiers forced out families, including the Assias and Abu al-Ghiyabs, from their houses at gunpoint, barring them from returning until 19:00.

In the Nablus street, the soldiers stormed a restaurant on the Nablus street in the city, and detained one of the employees, identified as a resident of the Bal'a town, northeast of the city, at a time when they blocked the street near the Tulkarm refugee camp using tires.

Israeli patrols also deployed in the Jabal An-Naser neighborhood of the refugee camp, where they cased and physically assaulted young men, detained and escorted some of them to nearby military barracks.

The occupation army has continued a massive onslaught on the city and the refugee camp of Tulkarm for the 86th consecutive day, causing extensive destruction of infrastructure and civilian properties and displacing thousands of civilians.

This comes as the occupation forces tightened military measures across the occupied West Bank hours after the release of 90 Palestinian prisoners as part of the Gaza ceasefire went into effect on January 19, dismembering and isolating cities and governorates from one another using military gates, barriers, and concrete blocks.

The Israeli military measures are in parallel with ongoing attacks by Israeli colonists across the West Bank to terrorize Palestinians and displace them from their lands to seize them and build illegal Jewish colonies that separate Palestinian communities.

Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 58-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project, which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.

Tulkarm: 87 days since Israel's aggression began on the city and refugee camps

TULKARM, April 23, 2025 (WAFA) –

The Israeli occupation forces continue their aggression against the city of Tulkarm and its camp for the 87th consecutive day, and for the 74th day against the Nur Shams camp, amid an ongoing escalation of incursions, raids, and vandalism.

WAFA correspondent reported that a loud explosion was heard this morning in the Jabal al-Iskan area opposite the Nur Shams camp, east of Tulkarm city. It later emerged that the occupation forces had detonated a suspicious object in the area.

She added that the occupation forces continue their siege of the Nur Shams camp, deploying infantry units around it and within its neighborhoods, specifically Jabal al-Nasr and Jabal al-Salihin, amidst the firing of live ammunition and sound bombs. They pursue residents who attempt to reach their homes to check on them or retrieve any belongings, if any. They arrest young men and take them to military barracks in the area.

Last night, the Tulkarm camp witnessed a heavy deployment of occupation soldiers, who wreaked havoc and destroyed the property of its residents after expelling them, rendering the camp empty and devoid of any signs of life.

Eyewitnesses reported that occupation forces were present at dawn today in the al-Hadaida neighborhood, conducting extensive searches and combing operations. They also fired flares into the skies above the camp, which was closed off with earth mounds and sections of it with barbed wire, isolating it from its surroundings.

In a related development, occupation forces and bulldozers stormed the al-Salam neighborhood and the Dhnaba suburb east of the city at dawn today. They patrolled the main streets and took up positions in various sections of the neighborhood, conducting sweeps and searches in the area.

In parallel, the city of Tulkarm is witnessing a daily escalation in incursions and raids on its neighborhoods and markets. These raids include the deployment of foot and mobile vehicles, amid provocative and arbitrary measures against citizens, particularly young men, including detention, abuse, confiscation of their ID cards and mobile phones, and, in many cases, arrest.

The occupation forces continued their campaign of forced displacement of residents of the eastern neighborhood of the city, in the area adjacent to the Abu al-Foul neighborhood in Tulkarm camp, forcing a number of families to evacuate their homes.

The occupation forces also continued to seize homes and residential buildings on Nablus Street and the adjacent northern neighborhood, converting them into military barracks after forcibly evacuating their residents. They also stationed their vehicles and bulldozers in the vicinity.

The occupation forces' ongoing aggression and escalation against the city of Tulkarm and its two camps resulted in the killing of 13 citizens, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant. They also injured and arrested dozens.

These attacks also resulted in the forced displacement of more than 4,000 families from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, comprising more than 24,000 residents, in addition to hundreds of citizens from the northern neighborhood of the city after their homes were seized and a number of them converted into military barracks.

The aggression caused widespread destruction to the infrastructure, including homes, shops, and vehicles, which were completely and partially demolished, burned, vandalized, looted, and stolen. 396 homes were completely destroyed and 2,573 partially destroyed in the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, in addition to the closure of their entrances and alleys with earth mounds.

Colonists assault Palestinian near Al-Auja spring north of Jericho

JERICHO, April 22, 2025 (WAFA) –

Israeli colonists assaulted a Palestinian man on Tuesday while he was driving near the Al-Auja spring area north of the city of Jericho, according to local sources.

Sources informed WAFA that the colonists intercepted the vehicle of a resident in the Arab Mleihat community, physically attacked him, and pepper-sprayed him in the face. The assault occurred under the protection of Israeli occupation soldiers, who were present at the scene but failed to intervene.

It is noteworthy that the Al-Auja spring area has been the site of recurring attacks by colonists targeting Palestinian residents.

Israeli army razes two Palestinian homes in Salfeet

Tuesday 22-April-2025

Salfeet , (PIC)

The Israeli occupation army demolished two Palestinian homes in the Salfeet province, north of the West Bank, on Tuesday at the pretext of unlicensed construction.

According to local sources, Israeli occupation forces encircled two houses in Iskaka town, east of Salfeet, before bulldozers embarked on knocking them down.

The demolished houses, which had been built several years ago, belonged to two brothers from the family of 'Harb.

As is the case in Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem), Palestinian houses and structures in the West Bank are a frequent target for demolition as the Israeli occupation apartheid regime makes it impossible for Palestinian citizens to obtain building permits.

UN: No aid trucks have entered Gaza for 50 days

Tuesday 22-April-2025

GAZA, (PIC)

The UN on Monday marked 50 days since the Israeli occupation government imposed a complete ban on the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, warning of a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation that is endangering the lives of the entire population.

“Today marks 50 days since the Israeli authorities have completely blocked incoming supplies of any kind into the Gaza Strip,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a news conference.

“Since early March, not a single truck carrying food, fuel, medicine or any other essentials have been allowed in no matter how critical they are for people’s survival,” Dujarric said, citing the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

“Over the past 50 days, food stocks have run dangerously low. Rations have been cut. Critical medicines, vaccines and medical supplies are all running low,” Dujarric told the news conference.

“Ambulances have had to scale back life-saving services because there’s almost no fuel to power these ambulances. Cooking gas has disappeared from markets. Bakeries have been forced to shut down,” Dujarric explained.

“OCHA warns that the impact of this continued blocking of humanitarian aid is devastating. Children and adults alike are going hungry. Access to health care is falling apart,” he said, adding that “attacks on civilians, including emergency teams and aid workers have surged again.”

Human Rights Watch: Israel must be compelled to lift Gaza siege and begin reconstruction

Tuesday 22-April-2025

GAZA, (PIC)

Human Rights Watch has called for urgent international pressure on Israel to lift its siege on the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in an unprecedented level-five famine.

Omar Shakir, director of Human Rights Watch’s office in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, stated on Tuesday that US complicity—under President Joe Biden and increasingly so during Donald Trump’s administration—has emboldened Israel to escalate its attacks, killing more civilians, the majority of whom are women and children.

Shakir emphasized that Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, which the international community has thus far failed to stop.

He further noted that Israel’s use of starvation as a military tactic constitutes a war crime under international law. Moreover, the political decision to use children as a pressure tool is, he said, an unprecedented war crime.

Human Rights Watch urged governments and international organizations to take all necessary measures to prevent genocide in Gaza. This includes halting military aid, reassessing bilateral agreements and diplomatic ties with Israel, and supporting the International Criminal Court and other accountability mechanisms.

Israel resumed its intensified assault and blockade on Gaza at dawn on 18 March 2025, after a two-month truce under a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on 19 January. However, Israel repeatedly violated the terms of the ceasefire throughout the truce.

Since 7 October 2023, with US and European backing, Israel has carried out what rights organizations are calling a campaign of genocide in Gaza, killing and injuring over 168,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. More than 14,000 people remain missing.

Editorial Notes about terms & names of people and places:

1. Names of people and places have been standardized to match standard Arabic grammatical rules.

2. Underlined letters and letters preceded by an apostrophe are references to Arabic letter sounds, which does not exist in the English alphabet.

3. The English letter i is equivalent to the Arabic short vowel known as kasra, as in Ibraheem and Qasim as well as in the English words sit and bit. So, it is incorrect to use it as a long vowel for such Arabic names as Jameel and Jibreel.

4. The English letter e is equivalent to the Arabi short vowel known as fat'ha, as in A'hmed and Mu'hammed.

5. It is more accurate to refer to the
land-grabbing Israelis, who establish illegal settlements in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, as illegal Israeli settlers, than referring to them as colonists.

The term colony is a reference to a large entity or a country, such as American states before independence. It was also a reference to Egypt, and India, when they were British colonies.

In addition, the term "colony" represents a positive nostalgic theme, in the minds of native speakers of English, particularly in America and Britain.

6. It is more accurate to use the verbs "abduct" and "kidnap" than the verbs "detain" and "arrest," in reference to taking Palestinian citizens by force to prisons and interrogation centers, by Israeli occupation regime soldiers. This is because the presence of the Israeli occupation regime forces is illegal in the Palestinian territories, and they have no jurisdiction over the Palestinian people.
